EFA 101 is designed to help your staff gain an understanding of common mental health challenges in the emerging adult population and identify and effectively respond to warning signs. Staff will learn about the mental health pyramid and skills for approaching and de-escalating mental health issues and understanding when to refer.

Addressing Challenging Participant Behavior

Learn strategies for effectively addressing participant behavioral challenges. Learn to utilize communication skills and teamwork when addressing challenging participant behavior. This session will also cover helpful skills including conflict resolution, rapport-building, and boundary setting that can help increase your effectiveness in the field.

Staff wellness is a critical component to successfully navigating their roles. This session highlights self-care strategies, the importance of modeling wellness,  and ways staff can draw healthy boundaries.

Learn this facilitator-led process that can help participants process crisis/traumatic situations that may occur while on program. The CISD can help mitigate participant distress after experiencing or witnessing a challenging or traumatic event.

to Sexual Assault

Learn best practices for compassionately supporting students who have been sexually assaulted. This session will also cover bystander intervention and safety strategies that can be utilized by program participants.

Substance Use: Strategies for Harm Reduction

This session will address topics related to substance use and abuse in the emerging adult population. Learn some of the impacts that substance use can have on individuals who haven’t reached full brain development, consequences that can be unique to the study abroad environment, and harm reduction strategies to help promote student safety while abroad or in new environments.
